We vote tomorrow!

Tomorrow, let’s elect a fighter to the RPV Chair, no more status quo – Elect Mike Schoelwer for Chair

Dear Delegates to the RPV State Convention,

Mike early in the war zone

For many weeks, I have been saying that if you are satisfied with the status quo in the RPV, then I am not your candidate. For most of my adult life, I have been in increasingly senior leadership positions for the US Marine Corps and for our county’s premier intelligence agency. I have led young men and women into harm’s way, planned and executed complex military operations, and have always been proud to serve my Country. I have led in high-performing battle-tested organizations for 39 years. The skill sets that I honed in my career is what I bring to RPV’s fight to start winning again.

Months ago, I thought long and hard about stepping up for the race for Chair of the RPV. At that time, I felt a deep motivation to do something to make changes for the better. Yes, I was tired of seeing us lose. But, looking around at the solid base of the RPV, I knew we could win with the proper leadership. I also knew that Virginia needed us to be in the fight. So, I accepted the challenge because I felt a deep motivation to use my skills to make changes for the better. Getting RPV back online is worth the fight.

Tomorrow delegates from across this great Commonwealth will vote for an RPV Chairman. No single position in our Party will have a greater responsibility to lead our Party back to winning elections. So, will you vote to preserve clubby, insecure leadership, or will you choose to create an effective, participatory institution that wins elections? Will you help an exclusive set protect their turf, or will you vote for a robust, effective political party that produces officials capable of governing Virginia? Those are the real questions before you when you vote tomorrow for a new Chairman.

In closing, please consider the traits of a top performing organization. They have clear mission statements. They cultivate leadership talent. They cooperate in coalitions for a common goal. Their leaders’ own mistakes, and find ways to correct them. They have clear strategies and the will to implement them. They welcome anyone who helps them achieve their goals. They constantly search for new, creative ways to succeed.

If you want to be an organization that stops our slide into irrelevance, and start winning elections again, I am your first choice. We are the GOP – the Grand Old Party. Virginia needs us to be Grand again.

Mike Schoelwer
Chairman, Lancaster County Republican Party
Candidate, Chairman of the RPV
